The Windies are trying to build on - what is good by their standards of late - a recent two test 0-0 draw in New Zealand, the series showed signs of improvement with contributions from newcomer Brendan Nash and captain Chris Gayle rather than the usual relying on the top class batting of Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Jerome Taylor is improving all the time in the bowling department and also scored his first test century in Dunedin.
England have of late again been their own worst enemy, at least in the aftermath of the Pietersen/Moores debacle they seem to have found some sanity with the appointment of Andrew Strauss as captain. In Strauss they have a man who already has captaincy experience with England and he should be able to keep the players focused on the job in hand rather than having them with half an eye on the IPL or Ashes. With only a couple of series wins over New Zealand lately England should see this as a winable Test series to get them back on track.
