Latest Premier League Betting 09/02/09

With their wins on Saturday Liverpool and Aston Villa kept up the pressure on Man Utd at the top of the table, but in true champions style they held their nerve and secured a tight 1-0 win over in form West Ham with Edwin Van der Sar again keeping a clean sheet. Liverpool fought out a 3-2 win away at Portsmouth, although they left it late against Pompey who might consider themselves a touch unlucky, while Villa won a club record seventh successive away win with a 2-0 win at Blackburn bringing to an end Rovers unbeaten run under Sam Allardyce. Chelsea could only manage a draw against struggling Hull, again showing their home form frailties and Arsenal again dropped points with their second successive goalless draw, though after the 1st half sending off of Eboue they might see it as a point gained.

At the bottom Newcastle gained a well needed three points away at West Brom, this result was as significant as the three points for Newcastle as it must give them the confidence to know they have the players to get out of the mess they’ve managed to get themselves in, as for West Brom it must be a crushing blow to lose in the manner they did against a fellow struggler in one of the matches they must have identified as a must win game. Middlesbrough, Stoke, Portsmouth and Bolton all lost. Only Spurs and Hull with a point apiece and Sunderland with a great 2-0 win over Stoke gained any ground this weekend. Boro and Pompey fans must fear for their teams with the current runs they are both on, the bookies seem to have it between the two of them to join Albion and Stoke in being relegated as they already have the latter two both heavy odds on.
