The day started well for them as the wicket finally lived up to expectations with Dale Steyn bowling a hostile spell adding another two wickets to his total. When Australia were dismissed for 352 South Africa must have thought they were back in the game, then came the spell from Johnson. After removing McKenzie and Amla in the first over of the innings he then went on to catch Smith on the glove with a nasty rising delivery.
Backed up by McDonald and Hilfenhaus, Johnson then forced Jacques Kallis to retire hurt needing stitches in his chin on their way to demolishing the South Africa batting.
