Test cricket at its best was on show at Seddon Park on day 1 of the 1st Test between New Zealand and India, lets hope the rest of the series is as exciting as the 1st day when the contest between bat and ball seemed to be fairer - although we might yet have to change that opinion after India bat.
A few eyebrows were raised when Mahendra Singh Dhoni decided to bowl after winning the toss as the pitch was expected to play well, with New Zealand 61/6 at lunch that decision seemed to be the correct one. After lunch though Jesse Ryder and Daniel Vettori showed the pitch wasn't full of demons after all when both scored centuries taking the game to the Indians after their dominance of the 1st session, moving the score onto 162/6 at tea.
After tea the final session swung backwards and forwards again with the Kiwis moving into a strong position on 246/6 at one stage before India struck back with two quick wickets leaving them struggling again on 246/8, Jessie Ryder then had to endure the worst number 11 in world cricket, Chris Martin facing 5 balls before he could complete his century before the Kiwi's were all out for 279.
