After another day on what seems to be a docile batting pitch that is not great for Test cricket but ensures a five day Test match (keeping accountants not fans happy) the draw is now the odds on favourite at Durham.
England got off to a solid start with both openers making starts before Strauss fell to Gayle for 26 with the score on 69. Looking largly untroubled Cook and Bopara then both made centuries in a second wicket partnership of 213 with Bopara at times looking a class act but again with the odd lack of concentration, a slight concern of his long term fututre prospects at number 3.
West Indies toiled away, their bowlers stuck to the task gamely but you always got the impression looking at them in the field that they never really believed and that they would rather be elsewhere. No major calamities in the field this time as their wasn't really any chances to drop - only a tough caught behind chance for Ramdin of Benn.
