Next Premier League Manager To Be Sacked

As off today Roberto Mancini is still the favourite out of all the managers listed, but he is not the market favourite.

As the January transfer window has come and gone, the bookmakers seem to be off the opinion that owners and chairmen are less trigger happy, as we see 'No Manager To Leave' (this season, obviously) take over favouritism in this market.

No Manager To Leave is favourite at a best price of 5/2 with SkyBet and William Hill. That is followed by Roberto Mancini at 11/4 with SkyBet, whereas Hill's have the Italian as joint favourite with No Manager To Leave, with both priced up at 5/2.

After that it is the usual suspects with Sam Allardyce 8/1 and Rafa Benitez 9/1 (down in 4th place, wow), both prices are at a market best with Stan James.

With regard to Mancini, I think his odds reflect the fact that the bookmakers think he might be sacked in the summer. With the big name they will obviously be looking to bring in to replace him, probably still in a job until then.

Even so, if they crash out of the FA Cup and the gap at the top doesn't close, then when the season is over from a footballing perspective, Mancini could be very vulnerable.

As has been the case with this market all season, names have come and gone. I do expect it to calm down a bit now, although a panicking chairman down at the bottom could yet pull the trigger in a last ditch attempt to save his side from the drop. So watch this space.

Hills turn away two grand toff

A story that caught my eye this week was the one about a posh looking gambler who walked into a William Hill shop in Windsor and tried to place a two grand bet on the date of a royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Apparently staff suspected him beacause he was 'very posh, clean shaven, wearing a blazer and shoes'. Not the typical profile of a punter according to a Hill's spokesman.

Hills turned down the £2000 bet as they thought he might be a member of a the royal household, or a friend of Prince William, and are now apparently checking CCTV to see if he is recognizable.

The morale of this story is that if you are a toff in the know about a royal wedding, you must take some precautions to ensure your bet is accepted.

First you must borrow some scruffy clothes of a common peasant, maybe your gardener.

Then you need to drive a couple of hundred miles, not to a destination anywhere near a royal castle though. Don't forget to leave your two hundred grand car around the corner.

Don't shave and try to speak in a local accent. Maybe the waft of alcohol on your breath might help in fooling the Hill's staff into thinking you're just a drunk as well.

In short, look like a common stereotype gambler in the eyes of William Hill. Free Bets are available with William Hill and various other Bookmakers.

Premier League Round Up 04/03/09

If the bookmakers are to be believed then the title is already decided, 1/16 with Victor Chandler is the best price you can find on Man Utd after their 2-1 win over Newcastle. It is hard to disagree and surely they only need to avoid defeat to Liverpool next week and it will all be over.

In the betting for the fourth Champions League spot Arsenal are back favourites again despite their dodgy form and run of 0-0 draws. Aston Villa seem to have hit a rocky patch and with the late drama against Stoke last Sunday and tonights defeat to Man City they haven't been able to take advantage of Arsenal's recent generousity.

With the exception of West Brom who are starting to get cut adrift of fourth bottom it is still far from sure who else will be going down. The relegation battle has been wide open all season and just when it seemed that the promoted three where heading back down Stoke and Hull go and upset things by pulling off timely victories. Stoke have shown that they have the stomach for the fight lately with their remarkable fight back to get a point at Villa Park on Sunday and again with a crucial 2-0 win over Bolton tonight, while Hull who must have wondered where the next win was coming from go and win at Fulham of all places to really throw a spanner in the works.

With Middlesbrough, Portsmouth and Newcastle all losing and Blackburn only managing a draw Stoke winning has seen them jump up to sixth from bottom and have all the teams up as far as Bolton looking nervously over their shoulders again.
