A star is born in America, over here in Europe we all know he is an exceptional talent, but after his victory in the Quail Hollow Championship the American's have discovered the talent of Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy.
In winning his first title on US soil, McIlroy became the youngest man to win on the PGA tour since Tiger Woods in 1996.
What made the achievement all the more amazing is that McIlroy only just made the cut on Friday evening at one over par. He then went on to shoot a remarkable 16 under par over the weekend, culminating with a new course record of 62 on Sunday, betting the previous record by
2 shots.
Rob Lee said on
Sky Sports that he may already have the best swing in world golf, and he is not 21 until this Tuesday (4th May).
His birdie on the 18th was a spectacular way to finish the round as well. Faced with around 40 feet, all the commentators were just expecting him to lay up short for a safe two putt, the ovation he received from the crowd after it dropped was more like the sort we see reserved for Tiger Woods.
