Premier League Update and Betting Guide

After Sunday's Premier League games the league is all but there for Manchester United. After winning what could have been a tricky fixture with relative ease against Manchester City the reds now need just 4 points from their final three games - starting with a visit to Wigan on Wednesday.

Liverpool again did their part in keeping up the pressure by beating West Ham but yet again Manchester United responded in typical fashion. The other Sunday fixture saw Chelsea confirm third place at the worst with a 4-1 thrashing of Arsenal, the gunners didn't play as bad as the scoreline would suggest but any little mistake was punished by Chelsea.

Everton failed to take advantage of Aston Villa's slip up at Fulham in the race for fifth place, while Villa lost 3-1 at Craven Cottage, Everton could only manage a home 0-0 draw with in form Tottenham.

At the bottom Hull blew their big chance to all but confirm survival by losing at home to Stoke, surely three points would have been enough to secure a second season in the Premier League for them but it wasn't to be and a win for Newcastle on Monday would condem Hull to the bottom three albeit on goal difference.

Blackburn's win and Bolton's home draw took both teams onto 40 points and surely to safety for another season. Portsmouth in losing 2-0 to Blackburn remain on 38 points and will still be feeling anxious but unless there is an outright winner in Monday's match they must surely be safe. The only other team struggling to stay out of the bottom three is Sunderland and they got a valuable point with a 0-0 draw with Bolton taking them onto 36 points.

West Brom managed another home win with a 3-1 victory over Wigan taking them onto 31 points - the same as Middlesbrough and Newcastle, but with the worst goal difference out of all the sides near the bottom it looks to be hopeless for them, if only they could have found this run of form 3 or 4 weeks ago.
